Featuring an adjustable hinge, the Balto® Flexor is a rehabilitation and post-surgical brace intended for canine ligament injuries and joint maladies of the hock. In the event of congenital or traumatic instability of the canine tarsal joints, this brace has been specifically engineered to offer stability.
The canine Flexor Hock Brace offers complete range of motion (R.O.M) regulation, enabling either complete or partial immobilization of the affected joint. This feature permits customization to suit the specific requirements of the companion. Post-surgically, regulated flexion-extension motions of the tarsal joint promote proper healing by reducing excessive strain and stress, depending on the needs of your dog.

BRACE FEATURES
- Two lightweight airplane aluminum splints for support
- An adjustable external hinge with secure lock technology for a custom range of motion (ROM) setting
- Range of motion can be set to a variety of degrees:
- Full Joint Immobilization (typically used pre/post-surgically) = 30° Flexion Position (FLEX) / 45° extension position (EXT)
- Reduced Range of Motion (ROM) (typically used during rehabilitation) = 30° Flexion Position (FLEX) / 15° extension position (EXT)
- Length and width adjustable – upper and lower padding can be lengthened or shorten on the leg to ensure an excellent fit

For dogs weighing over 50kg (110 lbs.) the brace should not be extended more than 1 cm (0.4 inch) at length for the top portion and 1 cm at length for the bottom portion. Adjusting the height too far from the center can create issues.

Non-neoprene braces from Balto® are constructed from superior materials; neoprene is notorious for harboring pathogens, offering insufficient support, and deteriorating rapidly. A range of dimensions guarantees a snug fit. A no-pinch product. Recommended for all ages, unless veterinarians advise otherwise. When applicable, apply the brace in proportionate increments of time for animals under the age of two to avoid potential growth disruptions.

Instructions for Use
Step 1
Adjusting the upper and lower padding (if needed): Use the biggest tool to loosen the two screws. Adjust the height of the padding by sliding it on the guide rail and then tightening the screws . Repeat on all four (Fig. 1 & 2).
Step 2
Adjusting the hinges: Use the smaller tool to adjust the hinges (Fig. 3).
Step 3
After setting the length and degree, prepare the brace by opening the straps. Place the brace on the leg and position the brace by lining up the central hinge with the tarsus (hock) (Fig. 4).
Step 4
Secure all the Velcro straps (starting with the bottom strap) around the leg by passing them through the buckles. Tightly close with the Velcro straps (Fig. 5 & 6).
Tips & Tricks
- Allow up to two weeks for your pet to fully accept the brace
- Wear the brace for 30 minutes a day, increasing 30 minutes each day after, for up to 12 hours
- Consult your veterinarian for specific instructions on when to wear your brace
- Remove the brace when your animal sleeps at night
- Inspect your pet for signs of skin irritation. If any are present, contact your veterinarian
- In addition to wiping the brace clean, keep skin and fur that comes into contact with the brace clean
- Inspect your brace regularly for any damage

Maintenance & Repair
A clean brace not only prevents infections, irritation, and a stinky smell; but it also allows your brace to last longer. To help support the longevity of your bracing device, here are some of our tips on how to properly clean your orthopedic bracing:
- Remove as much hair as possible from any Velcro® frequently to prevent compaction.
- Use lint roller or lightly adhesive tape to remove hair from the material of the brace.
- By hand, use warm water and a gentle cleansing soap to remove any stains and odors.
- Rinse soap thoroughly from the brace
- Hang to dry. Once the brace is completely dry, it is ready for use!
